Hemp Protein

Hemp protein is obtained from the seeds of the hemp plant, which are pressed and ground. It contains no relevant amounts of the psychoactive substance THC and is therefore an ordinary plant food. In addition to protein, hemp protein also supplies notable amounts of fibre and unsaturated fatty acids.

In practice, hemp protein usually reaches a lower protein share per 100 g than more highly purified isolates, because it is separated less thoroughly from fat and fibre. In taste it is earthy and slightly nutty. As with other plant proteins, the share of certain essential amino acids, such as lysine, is lower than in animal sources.

Complementing it with other plant sources is described in the entry Multi-component protein, and the Vegan protein guide offers an introduction to plant proteins.
